The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office made quick work of solving a robbery Monday. Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said his office received a 911 call at 4:59 p.m. from Giovanni’s Pizza located at 10355 Main St. in South Webster. The report said a male subject dressed in a large coat, ski mask and gloves entered the store grabbed the cash register and took off.
Deputies said while exiting the property it appeared he dropped some type of gun outside the store. The caller said he jumped into a white Chevrolet 4-door Cavalier that appeared to have a t-shirt covering the tag. The vehicle left reportedly headed down Ohio 140 toward Wheelersburg.
Deputies responded to Giovanni’s and were able to get statements from witnesses that were inside the store during the robbery and gather information for a report. Deputies were also able to recover the gun which was identified as an air soft pistol.
Donini said his office received a call stating that a white cavalier matching the suspect vehicle was leaving Ashley Corner headed toward South Webster. Sgt. Darren Fike and Deputy George Antonaros were able to observe the vehicle traveling on Ohio 140 toward South Webster which resulted in a traffic stop. The suspect was detained and detectives were called out to this location.
Detectives were able to recover the cash register that had been tossed into a creek on Railroad Hollow Road, the clothing and mask worn during the robbery and the money stolen from the cash register. During the investigation detectives also learned that the suspect had broken into the Country Store located in South Webster at 1:03 a.m.
Arrested was Jonathan Bellar, 19 of Kittle Road, Wheelersburg. Bellar has been charged with one count of robbery, a felony of the second degree and one count of breaking and entering, a felony of the fifth degree. Bellar was held on a $90,000 bond.
Donini said the investigation is ongoing, which could result in more arrests and other charges being presented to the Scioto County grand jury on a later date.
He said anyone with any information concerning the robbery or break-in should contact detective Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091.
