Gary Rae Mullins of Eden Park has taken petitions with the Scioto County Board of Elections to run as a Democrat for county commissioner.

Mullins is running for the commissioner seat that will become vacant at the end of the year with the retirement of current commissioner Skip Riffe.

“I am a recent cancer survivor, God gave me another chance and I want to use it to help revive my home, Scioto County. I have worked with, spoken on behalf of and helped promote small businesses, the backbone of our communities, as well as every imaginable civic group for the best part of 49 years. In doing so I have gained a great deal of knowledge concerning each individual business and their needs,” Mullins said in a released statement.

Mullins said if elected one of the things he want to work on is, cleaning up the image of Scioto county.

“We need to work in unison on many fronts to clean up the image of our county and to attract medium and larger employers as well as making sure our small business owners and employees remain a stable and viable part of our communities,” Mullins said. “Of course we all want job growth with meaningful jobs, In the best interest of the taxpayer I plan to work with business owners, industrial partners and our many educational resources in securing jobs and economic growth for our county. I will go door to door to meet the voters.”

Mullins said as a result of his cancer operation he had to end a 49 year career as a radio personality.

“My cancer operation changed my way of speaking which ended a 49 year career on the radio, most recently at Mix 99.3, 107.5 The Breeze and Fox Sportsmouth 1260 as ‘Gary Rae’ but I am by far not yet done,” Mullins said. Mullins is a 1966 graduate of Clay High School and former member and /or honorary member of a multitude of civic organizations. Mullins said,
