After receiving more than twenty applications from prospective candidates and hosting seven interviews, the Portsmouth City Board of Education has finalized its search for a new superintendent. The culmination of their search resulted in the announcement of Mr. Scott Dutey, who served as one of the District’s central office administrators during the past school year, as their final choice. The announcement came as a part of the business addressed at a recent board of education meeting.

Mr. Dutey has spent 21 years in the field of education, with the overwhelming majority of that time being served in the Dawson-Bryant School District as a classroom teacher, building principal and Assistant Superintendent. In 2009, he was hired to serve as the Portsmouth City School District’s curriculum and grant administrator. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the areas of curriculum and program development to a district looking forward to continuing its progress toward academic and financial excellence.

According to Clarence Parker, President of the board, “We feel that Scott can literally hit the ground running as a result of his past year’s experience in our district. And that’s important as it relates to maintaining continuity and stability during yet another change for our school system.” Dr. George Pettit, Vice President of the board adds, “I am very impressed with Scott’s knowledge and experience in leading a school district to academic excellence, as demonstrated during his tenure at Dawson-Bryant.”
