Acceptance by Carolyn Morrow Hilliard of the appointment of Chairman of the National Defense Committee, SVV Chapter, United States Daughters of the War of 1812, is being announced by Chapter President, Gail Cropper Swick. Mrs. Hilliard is a Charter member of the SVV, and she holds the Office of Recording Secretary.
The primary responsibility of the National Defense Committee Chairman is to promote awareness and recognition of the United States’ military troops, and their contributions in maintaining America’s freedom. One distinguished program, under the auspices of the National Defense Committee, is the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC), High School level, Bronze Medal Award. Mrs. Hilliard will establish a working relationship with a high school having a JROTC program. She will represent the USD 1812, SVV Chapter by providing the distinguished Bronze Medal Award for an outstanding JROTC Cadet at their annual recognition event.
The JROTC is a Federal program sponsored by the United States Armed Forces; it was originally created as part of the National Defense Act of 1916 and later expanded under the 1964 ROTC Vitalization Act.
