PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The Shawnee State University Chapter of Student Veterans of America (SVA) attended the SVA National Conference in Orlando, Fl.
The four-day conference featured educational panel discussions, sessions led by notable experts, informative issue forums, and a one-of-a-kind networking and professional development opportunity with hundreds of professionals who work daily to empower military veterans and families.
The SVA is the nation’s premier organization that provides military veterans with the resources, support and advocacy needed to succeed in a higher education institution.
The SVA is a student-led organization designed to provide support and assistance for fellow veterans in college. Members of SVA have served in various branches of the military and have personally gone through the transitional phase of settling into a civilian life. SVA is committed to helping other veterans with the transition to college life.
Members of SSU’s SVA who attended the conference were Michael Gadd, Vice President of SVA, Jacob Paden, SVA Treasurer, and Wendell Reeves, SVA President.
“At the conference, we learned that the SVA Chapter needs to be run as a business to ensure its establishment and longevity,” said Reeves. “To run the group as a business, not only sets the bar high, but also ensures future leaders have a mapped plan for what the organization’s members want from the group and what to give back to the community.”
