PORTSMOUTH – As part of the 2015-16 season, the Southern Ohio Performing Arts Association and Shawnee State University present the Million Dollar Quartet at 7:30 p.m. on Mon., March 14, at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.

The production dramatizes many events of the day four of the most talented musicians, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley, showed up at Sam Phillips’s Sun Recording Studio for a memorable jam session in December of 1956.

The production features iconic songs by these legends, including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “That’s All Right,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Walk the Line,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin On,” and “Hound Dog.”

Unlike many Broadway musicals, the Million Dollar Quartet performers need to be able to play musical instruments, such as the guitar and/or piano, on top of acting, singing and moving like the well-known musicians to pull off the show.

60 years later, the influences of that day’s event still live on in today’s musical world. Jacob Tolliver, a Portsmouth native, portrays Jerry Lee Lewis in the Las Vegas production of Million Dollar Quartet.
