PrimaryPlus promotes ‘Colon Cancer Awareness Month’

Colon cancer, also known as colorectal cancer, is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women combined, in the nation and the state of Kentucky.

The mortality rate in Kentucky is among the highest, claiming the lives of more than 800 people each year; however, if caught early it can be treated.

March is designated to raising awareness and encouraging the importance of screenings for colorectal cancer.

PrimaryPlus and its locations throughout the Buffalo Trace region have joined in on promoting the cause by hosting a campaign entitled: “GET YOUR REAR IN GEAR…BE SEEN. GET SCREENED.”

PrimaryPlus’ medical team truly believe in the importance of being screened for colon cancer. They also have seen first-hand, how screenings save lives.

During the month of March, PrimaryPlus will be going the extra mile to promote and educate patients on colorectal cancer.

It is recommended that both men and women ages 50-75 be screened routinely and earlier if there are symptoms present or a family history.

Symptoms can include blood in the stool, abdominal pain, diarrhea, changes in bowel habits, weakness or fatigue, rectal bleeding, and unexplained weight loss.

It is important to note that symptoms are not always present in the early stages of colon cancer which is another reason it is so critical to be screened.

PrimaryPlus’ medical providers welcome you to schedule an appointment to discuss what screenings are best for you!

The PrimaryPlus team has worked on some great educational displays in their office lobbies showcasing “GET YOUR REAR IN GEAR” and why screenings are so important—everyone is welcome to stop by to get information. PLUS, they are giving those that are in the screening age an opportunity to WIN an Amazon Fire HD8 Tablet.

To be entered to WIN, patients must schedule an appointment with their PrimaryPlus medical provider during the month of March, complete a “Be Screened” survey and schedule a colon cancer screening (as best determined by your medical provider). The contest will run until March 31st.
