Project wraps up; others continue

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced earlier this week the completion of a slip repair project. ODOT continues to have several ongoing projects throughout Scioto County.

A portion of State Route 125 in Scioto County was reduced to one lane earlier this year. ODOT awarded a contract to Sunesis Construction Company to repair the slip. The project became necessary when the pavement and shoulder became comprised along the south side of Scioto-125, just west of U.S. 52, following a period of significant rainfall in the spring. Crews completed the project Thursday evening and both lanes of the roadway was opened to traffic, two weeks ahead of the anticipated July 15 completion date.

Other ongoing ODOT projects include eastbound U.S. 52 (Rhodes Avenue) is reduced to one, 12-foot lane through the village of New Boston for a resurfacing project. The project limits from just west of Manning Street to east of Clayport Street. In addition to the road restriction, there will be no parking along the south side lanes during the project.

A dual bridge replacement is under way on S.R. 140 at the 9.22 and the 9.48-mile markers, between C.R. 17 (Frederick Road) and just east of T.R. 294 (Railroad Hollow Road), one mile west of South Webster. Throughout construction, traffic on S.R. 140 will be maintained with the use of temporary signals; however, Frederick Road is closed, and motorists are being detoured via T.R. 295 (Haines Road) and C.R. 12 (Bennett School House Road). Work is scheduled to be completed in late fall. A slide repair project is on going on S.R. 348 is reduced to one lane between S.R. 73 and T.R. 110 (Mt. Joy Road), north of Otway. Throughout construction, traffic will be maintained in one, 10-foot lane with the use of temporary traffic signals. The project is anticipated to be completed in mid to late summer.

A culvert replacement project is under way in Shawnee State Forest, where crews will be replacing culverts and headwalls at multiple locations on Forest Roads 4, 6, 13, 16, 18 and 19.

Operations for a bridge replacement are under way on S.R. 73, where crews are replacing the structure at the 1.10–mile marker over Rarden Creek and immediately west of Rarden.

ODOT in coordination with the Portsmouth Gateway Group broke ground on the Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway, Once complete, the 16-mile; four-lane divided, limited access highway will complete the Appalachian Highway System in Ohio, and will include five interchanges and 22 bridges. In total the roadway will have 72 lane-miles. There will be five major interchanges with two partial interchanges. The roadway is anticipated to have an average daily traffic of up to 14,500 vehicles. ODOT has set the speed limit of the roadway at 70 miles per hour.

Contractors for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have closed the Carl Perkins Bridge as part of a bridge painting project, and motorists are being detoured via the U.S. Grant Bridge at Portsmouth.
