Jax Theatre of Wheelersburg is set to host ‘A Christmas Carol’, with performances on Dec. 20 and 21.

As an added bonus to this year performance, the theatre has brought back R.J. Haddy a creature designer and make-up effect artist to do the makeup for the performances. For each performance Haddy will be transform a number of cast members into their characters.

“This is our third annual performance of, ‘A Christmas Carol’ the musical. We are excited to have R.J. Haddy be with us again this year. He will be doing my makeup, as well as all of our ghosts. He’s doing pretty much all of our main characters this time,” said Jordan Nickles who plays Ebenezer Scrooge. “The play is, a classic Christmas Carol, the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by his dead business partner Jacob Marley who warns him, he’s got to change his selfish ways or he’s going to end up like him. He gets visited by the ghost of Christmas past, present and future. They try to get him to change his ways, before it’s too late.”

Haddy has competed in two seasons of the SyFy channels series Face Off, seasons two and five.

According to information released by the SyFy channel about Haddy, “Season 2 of Face Off was to give his career a push so that he could quit teaching high school and work full time on his art. Mission accomplished. These days, R.J. works full-time creating special effects and running an e-commerce site selling airbrush equipment, including his own Shadow line of brushes. Inspired by special effects masters like Rick Baker, Jim Henson, Stan Winston, Greg Cannom and others, and by being selected as the Fan Favorite in season two, R.J. is back for the new season of Face Off.

Haddy came to Jax Theatre, in Wheelersburg to create Scrooge for their 2012 annual performance of ‘A Christmas Carol’. Haddy transformed Jordan Nickles into an 80-year-old Ebenezer Scrooge for each performance.

“I had originally met R.J. through Transworld’s Halloween and Attractions show that takes place annually in St. Louis. Season 2 of Face Off was still airing then and R.J. was performing a makeup demo for the crowd. I never imagined that it would be me in that chair the following year,” Nickles said.

Nickles said he will again be traveling to the Transworld show again this year.

When asked what people can look forward to from this year’s performance Nickles said, “We’ve added a few songs and made some changes here and there. We like to keep the show fresh, so people who are a fan of some of the old they are going to get that as well as some new stuff.”

He said there are roughly 50 people involved in this year’s performance.

The cast of the show was recently given the opportunity to meet with the cast of the Nebraska Theatre Caravan after their performance of A Christmas Carol at the Vern Riffe Center For the Arts.

“(They) were extremely friendly and accommodating group of performers who took time to speak with every member of our own cast, our younger members were definitely star struck. I myself had an opportunity to meet with their very own Scrooge and it was an honor to get to hear experiences and receive advice from someone who plays the role for a living. We were able to show them all what my transformation from RJ Haddy will be like and it was amazing to see their enthusiasm on the quality of professional work that RJ has brought to our own version of A Christmas Carol,” Nickles said,

Jax Theatre is located in the Wheelersburg Cinema and the performance on Dec. 20 the show will start at 7 p.m. and on Dec. 21 shows will take place at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for students and seniors and $12 general admission.
