The Portsmouth Public Library will be hosting its fourth annual Writing Workshop. Following a slightly different format this year the entire workshop will take place on March 22 from 10am-4pm in the Copley Meeting Room of the Portsmouth Location. Local Author Showcase
The Portsmouth Public Library is looking for local authors to participate in a Local Author Showcase in April. Participating authors will have the opportunity to promote and sell their books at this event. Due to space limitations, only a small number of authors will be selected to participate. The Miracle Worker
In celebration of the upcoming performance of ‘The Miracle Worker’ at the Vern Rife Center for the Arts March 25, the Portsmouth Public Library and Shawnee State University have organized a series of events to honor the legacy of Helen Keller and showcase adaptive technology available today. Youth Interactive Puppet theatre
The Portsmouth library location will host a fun and interactive puppet show in the children’s department March 18 at 6pm. This show is best suited for ages 4-12.
Young Adult Book Group
The Young Adult Book Groups will be meeting this week. These book groups are for young adults 12 to 18 years of age. Each month a new book is chosen for each member to read and then get together and discuss. The groups will be discussing ‘The Miracle Worker’ by William Gibson as part of The Miracle Worker Series.

Stuart Little Celebration
Stuart Little, the classic children’s book, has been celebrated with a theatrical version. The Portsmouth Public Library is celebrating the PAAC’s upcoming presentation of the show by hosting several events full of Stuart Little fun. There will be crafts, games, giveaways with chances to win tickets to the public showing at the VRCFA Theatre on April 7. Several locations will be hosting a Stuart Little event. The Portsmouth Public Library now provides access to BookFlix, online interactive storybooks for elementary school aged children. BookFlix pairs an animated storybook with related literacy elements, including a related nonfiction book and interactive educational games. There are nine themes: Animals and Nature; Earth and Sky; Family and Community; People and Places; Music and Rhyme; ABC’s and 1, 2, 3’s; Adventure; Imagination; and Celebrations. There are also great features like vocabulary reinforcement and read along options, closed-captioning, and Spanish-language content. BookFlix can be accessed through the library website, www.yourppl.org. You will need your library card number to use BookFlix. Homeschoolers can join their friends for stories, games, and much more. This program is for children ages 5-12. Join us at the Portsmouth location March 19 at 2pm. For more information call the Youth Services Department at 354-5562.
Girls Book Group
Each month your child can join a club that will take them on an adventure through the pages of a book. At the end of each month the YS department will provide a movie or speaker, craft, and snack that corresponds with the book. This month the book group will be holding a book fashion show. Children Sign Language Basic Class
Friday, March 21st at 3:30 p.m. Ages 5-11 can join us to broaden basic sign language skills in an open and positive environment. Join us at the Portsmouth location , March 21st at 3:30 pm. Upcoming Adult/Teen Activities Announced
Continuing into its fifteenth year, the Down By the River Quilt Guild’s Spring Library Show shows no sign of losing popularity.
This year’s theme, ‘Bright and Beautiful’ promises to be a show that will delight viewers, whether they are quilters themselves or not. The quilts will be hung from the balcony of the Portsmouth library location from March 1 through April 11 and available for viewing any time the library is open.
