The Valley Alumni Association held their annual banquet on the evening of Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the American Legion Post on Court Street in Portsmouth. Graduates representing nine decades from the 1930’s to the present were in attendance. Ric Allwood, class of 1962 and former Valley High School teacher, served as master of ceremonies. Chris Spencer, class of 1999, catered the dinner. Special recognition was given to the class of 1964 on the occasion of their fiftieth anniversary. Following the diner, music was provided by Doc Roc and The Remidies.

The Scholarship Committee was pleased to introduce their recipients for this year. David Adkins, member of the class of 1980 and Scholarship Committee Chair, introduced the recipients who will each receive a two thousand dollar scholarship to further their education. Johelen Taylor is the daughter of Jeff Taylor of Minford and Shelly Taylor of Lucasville. Johelen plans to attend Shawnee State University as a participant in their pre-medicine program. Zach Shope is the son of Terry and Ellen Shope of Lucasville. This third generation Valley graduate will attend Ohio University this fall and major in exercise physiology. Daniel Egbert is the son of Dale and Gracie Egbert of Lucasville. A second-generation graduate of Valley Local Schools, Daniel plans to attend Ohio University majoring in finance. Jacob Lute is the son of the late Larry Lute and Shawn and Kathy Davis of Wheelersburg. Jacob plans to attend Welch College and will major in church music ministry and biblical studies. Jacob is a third generation Valley graduate. Whitney Wright is the daughter of Chris and Susan Wright of Lucasville. Whitney will attend Welch College this fall and major is psychology.

The scholarship program is funded by the generous support of many donors throughout the year as well as the profit from the banquet. Contributions were recognized that had been given in memory of Don Crabtree and John Howard and in honor of Alice Barker. Recognition was also given to Mrs. Frances Moulton who contributed stock valued at over five thousand dollars to the Scholarship Fund in memory of her late husband Jack Moulton who was a member of the class of 1948.

The Alumni Association holds their banquet each year the last Saturday in June. Reservation forms for the 2015 Banquet will be available through the alumni section of the Valley Local Schools website at www.valleyls.org.
