Pioneer Garden at Shawnee State Park Nature Center
The Portsmouth Public Library, Scioto Soil and Water Conservation District and the Ohio State Park Service have teamed up to bring an exciting project to Scioto County. We will be hosting a Pioneer Garden at the Shawnee State Forest Nature Center.
We will be using this garden to teach about gardening, nature and traditional Appalachian life. The garden will be open each Friday at 1pm and activities will begin at 3pm. The bookmobile will be visiting and leading activities about topics including: a pioneer child’s life, traditional music, folk remedies, pioneer clothing and food making.
All Ages are welcome to come and learn about our past in this unique atmosphere.

Teen Summer Reading Events This Week
Balloon Lego Car Races
Teens are challenged with the task of building a Lego car that will run solely on the air produced from an inflated balloon. Each Lego car will then compete in a race to see who survives. Supplies will be provided. Ages 13-18. Registration required. This program will be held at the New Boston library location July 9 at 3:30pm.
Adult Summer Reading Activities This Week
Come join us for a fun filled movie night at the Portsmouth library location July 10 at 5:30pm.

Upcoming Adult/Teen Activities Announced
Community Garden at the Portsmouth Public Library
The Portsmouth Public Library has started a community garden. Each week we teach classes in the garden and provide hands on experience for anyone interested in learning. Experts Kate Sowards from the Scioto Soil and Water Conservation District and Lisa Kepler from the Ohio University Extension will be on hand every session to teach you how to get the most out of your garden.
As the gardening season progresses we will also be offering food preservation classes to teach you how to can, freeze and dry what you harvest. Treva Williams from the Ohio State University Extension will be our expert presenting these classes.

Mystery Book Group

The South Webster Branch will be hosting a Scrapbooking class from 5:30-7:30 pm July 8. Those attending will be learning the art of scrapbooking. Space is limited. Adult Sign Language Basic Class Ages 12 and up can join us to learn basic sign language skills in an open and positive environment July 11 at 3:30pm. The class meets twice a month at the Main Branch. It is free of charge but you must sign up in advance by calling 354-5688 ext. 0 or visiting the Reference Desk at the Main library.

Non-traditional Art entries for the August A.R.T. Gallery showing must be submitted to the library by July 26th to be included in the show.
Monthly Media Trivia Every month PPL offers a new media themed trivia. Fill out a trivia each month to be entered in to win the corresponding “books into movies” prize!
