South Point, OH – It was standing room only for the 300 plus people that gathered to hear dignitaries, public officials and Ohio Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor laud the positive outcomes and outline the possibilities for the new Port of South Point located in the Point Industrial Park in South Point, Ohio. Dr. Bill Dingus, executive director of the Lawrence County Development Corporation said, “We are gratified at the excitement and enthusiasm all players and stakeholders exhibited at this great event. Our Port is open for business. We plan on changing the face of commerce and economic outcomes in our region, the State and our part of the country. This is a great day for Ohio.”

“The dedication ceremony and the aftermath of the dedication took on a festive feel,” remarked Les Boggs, President of the Lawrence County Commissioners. “I have attended many of these kinds of events,” he added, “but this day opens up a new chapter in our county’s history. This Port and the activities that will go on here will change the face of the economy in our region.”


During the dedication, numerous river vessels, trains and trucks passed through the Industrial Park vicinity. Mary Taylor, the Lieutenant Governor, quipped, “I don’t want any of you to think my looking around means I’m distracted from the events of the day. Instead, I am amazed at the activity and motion already taking place here!”


The positive growth as a result of the Port of South Point includes:


· Over 1200 jobs will be added


· Exports and imports on a global scale will occur


· Southern Ohio will become a transportation hub for cargo
