King’s Daughters Medical Center President and CEO Fred Jackson said the continual growth of services offered in their more than 50 facilities, including their new KDMC Ohio hospital, is due to the quality and advanced medical treatments provided.

“We are proud to have the latest technology and the most advanced professionals working to make our services some of the best in the nation,” Jackson shared. “In our new hospital here in Portsmouth, our volumes are exceeding our expectations by more than 60%.”

KDMC has increased their volumes in medical imaging and lab services and their volumes have increased so much at their urgent care facility that plans are in place to relocate to a larger location.

Jackson said the health system has recently received accreditation from the Joint Commission of Healthcare Organizations and has received several excellence ratings through CareChex, a hospital quality ratings organization and Healthgrades, a national healthcare rating company.

“We put the quality of our services first in everything we do. It is important that a healthcare organization have high quality standards for those they provide services to,” Jackson said.

Jackson said King’s Daughters Medical Center has ranked in the top 10% for quality in the nation in several specialty areas and continues to rank high in the region for Cardiac Care, Major Cardiac Surgery and Interventional Coronary Care.

“We also are currently the only hospital in the region that is offering the transcatheter aortic valve replacement,” said Jackson. “This is such a minimally invasive procedure and is perfect for patients too sick or frail to withstand open-heart surgery.”

The TAVR procedure is performed similar to a cardiac catheterization. After the patient receives anesthesia, a balloon catheter is guided through the femoral (leg) artery to aorta and on to the aortic valve. Once in place, the cardiologist deploys the balloon, destroying any calcification and restoring the size of the aortic valve opening.

The balloon is removed and a catheter carrying the new valve is guided through the arteries to the aortic valve. Once in place, the valve is deployed and begins working immediately.

KDMC also recently partnered with Marshall University to serve as a teaching facility for Orthopedics.

“Our Orthopedic Surgeon Gerry Trinidad is very exicited about this venture and has recently become a professor at Marshall University. It is a great way for us to be a positive influence in the future careers of our youth,” said Jackson.
