The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, PA recently bestowed its “Alumni Award in Specialized Ministry” upon the Rev. Donald H. Moeser, ACSW, a Huntington, WV native. The award was presented by Seminary President, Dr. Michael Cooper-White, upon the recommendation of the Seminary’s Alumni Council. The award is given annually to a graduate who has made lasting contributions to the ministry over a significant period of time. The Rev. John F. Seibert, II of Lexington, KY, a retired US Navy Chaplain, nominated Rev. Moeser and he submitted a number of documents in support of his former classmate, including a letter from Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Chair of the African and African-

American Studies Departmental Harvard University that he had sent to

Don saying, “I admire your tenacity and forthrightness; it is good to have

you as an ally in the ongoing fight for education!”

Rev. Moeser is a 1952 graduate of Huntington East High School, 1958

graduate of Marshall University, 1964 M.A. graduate of West Virginia Uni-

versity and completed all but his PhD dissertation in urban sociology and

race relations at The Ohio State University in 1975. He graduated from

Gettysburg Seminary in 1962 and last year received a Golden Anniversary

diploma.

Rev. Moeser currently resides in the Portsmouth, OH area with

his wife, Susan (Lewis) Moeser.
