The NAIA Eligibility Center recently notified Shawnee State University that it had made an error in the calculation of coursework credits earned by Bennington and that the initial determination of eligibility would be overturned.
“We were very disappointed to learn of the error, as was Jeremy,” Jeff Hamilton, SSU Athletic Director and men’s basketball head coach, said, “Jeremy is a valuable member of this team and is a big part of our future. As with all of our team members, he is first and foremost a student and we support and share in the NAIA’s focus on curriculum evaluation. We appreciate their prompt attention and guidance in this matter.”
Hamilton explained that Bennington was allowed to compete in two basketball games before the error was found. The Nov. 8 win against Berea College (75-55) and the Nov. 11 win against Central State University will now be forfeited. Shawnee State University has notified these schools and their official records will reflect the change.
