Eight free workshops from The Ohio State University will be presented at Shawnee State University beginning Monday, Sept. 17 in Room 214 at the University Center.

“In every class we have a fun exercise activity, taste a recipe that we sometimes cook together in the class, and everyone takes home a tool to help them practice what they have learned,” said Renee Storey, OSU program assistant who teaches the class.

New recipes, healthy meals, food safety and saving money are all scheduled in a series of eight workshops with food to taste and a handy kitchen tool to take home.

The Ohio State University’s Food and Nutrition Education Program is geared for families with children.

“The goal of the classes is to raise a generation that will grow up healthier than we did, in the hopes that they will have decreased strokes, heart disease and diabetes as they age,” Storey said. “Many of the diseases we deal with can be controlled or eliminated with diet and exercise.”

Although most of the classes are on Mondays at 5:30 p.m., the second class will be on Tuesday, September 25 at 5:30 p.m.

To preregister, contact Renee at the Extension office with your name and contact information at (740) 354-7879 or e-mail at storey.28@osu.edu.
