Greenup County Habitat for Humanity (GCHFH) will provide three habitat homeowners refurbished laptops through a grant with Redemtech and Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI). Homeowners receive the laptops, free of charge, after attending a basic computer and internet safety training. Nick Fannin, Greenup County resident and Shawnee State University student, volunteered to provide the 2 hour training at Flatwoods Public Library and at McKell Public Library.

Redemtech, a world leader in refurbishing large volumes of personal computers from businesses, committed to provide computers for 10,000 habitat for humanity partner families through its Microsoft approves refurbishing (MAR) computer program, which includes genuine Microsoft software and other initiatives. Most laptops are less than four years old.

Habitat homeowners are responsible for the proper environmental-friendly disposal of the laptop they receive once it is no longer in use by their family. Redemtech provides free asset recovery and recycling services to the Habitat homeowners on all units that were donated.

Rhonda Nunley, GCHFH president states, “Redemtech has provided our partner families with a great opportunity in owning personal laptops through a simple process.” GCHFH was contacted by HFHI and after completing the required paperwork, received the laptops to distribute. They had sixty days to complete training and send in final report. Homeowners appropriate to receive laptops included those with a new house, a house rehab and A Brush with Kindness project.

GCHFH has been a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International since December 2008. The Christian organization provides selected low-income families with the funds and volunteer labor to repair, rehab or build homes. The families are responsible to pay back the organization at zero percent interest in low monthly payments for the cost of materials and any contracted labor. Their payments are used for funding of other projects. Tax deductible donations can be mailed to GCHFH, PO Box 905, Greenup, KY 41144 or made through PayPal on their website.
