Seth McDermott, a Project Manager at USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant (ACP) in Piketon, has received his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification through the Project Management Institute (PMI). McDermott works for the ACP Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) organization. He is currently overseeing ongoing construction projects that include roof repairs, water valve replacements, air system installations, electrical work and other projects that will strengthen the infrastructure of the American Centrifuge Plant.

A Project Management Professional certificate recognizes an individual’s ability to lead and direct projects. The PMP certification demonstrates that McDermott has the knowledge in the practice of project management and industry methods, and it shows that he is competent in the processes of project management and up-to-date in industry guidelines and processes.

To be eligible to obtain the certification, applicants must have obtained a four-year bachelor’s degree, project management experience, a minimum of 4,500 hours leading and directing projects, and additional accredited project management education. The certification shows that McDermott has proven to demonstrate the ability to lead projects with a solid fundamental approach.

Today, McDermott is one of more than 400,000 PMP certified project managers. The PMP certification is a globally recognized credential and is considered to be one of the most prestigious certifications in the field of project management. The credential will enhance the EPC organization as the American Centrifuge Demonstration program is deployed and future USEC commercial plant deployment plans continue.

McDermott is a graduate of Portsmouth West High School, and he received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Ohio University. He interned at the gaseous diffusion plant (GDP) at Piketon in June 1992 as a summer student. Upon his graduation in 1996 from OU, he began working as a civil engineer at the GDP. He began working for the American Centrifuge Plant in the fall of 2005.

McDermott lives in West Portsmouth with his wife Erica and two daughters, Sydney, 7, and Rylee, 5.

USEC Inc., a global energy company, is a leading supplier of enriched uranium fuel and nuclear industry related services for commercial nuclear power plants.
