The New Boston Homemakers and Community Education Club met Thursday,
October 11 at the New Boston Community Center.
Janice Tomlin, President, opened the meeting. Seven members answered roll call. Dee Lightner led the pledge and Karen Chaffin led the creed. A get-well card was signed for a member who is ill.
Alberta D. Potters gave the secretary’s report. Karen Chaffin made motion to accept minutes; Freda Billiter seconded. Motion carried. Rosella Riepenhoff gave the treasurer’s report. Alberta D. Potters made motion to accept report; Karen Chaffin seconded. Motion carried.
Janice Tomlin reported on the council meeting. The International Dinner will be October 16, hosted by Eastern and Empire clubs. The country will be Vietnam. Rosella Riepenhoff is to bring the door prize. Members are to bring a covered dish and the turbans for cancer patients and the bags for Operation Christmas Child. Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m.
The Spring District meeting will be April 25 in Piketon. Alberta D. Potters of the New Boston club and Patty Thompson of the Eastern Club are in charge. The theme will be a Hawaiian Luau.
The children’s books collected will be going to Clay School. Patty Reed and Janet Twinam of the Eastern club will deliver them.
Veterans were chosen to receive fruit baskets on Veterans Day. Patty Jenkins is to supply ribbon; Freda Billiter and Janice Tomlin, baskets; and Alberta D. Potters, cards. Patty Jenkins is to bring the bananas; Alberta D. Potters, oranges; Freda Billiter, apples; Rosella Riepenhoff, grapes; Dee Lightner, tangerines and Karen Chaffin, candy.
Alberta D. Potters reported on the speaker for Celebrate the Holidays. Cecilia Morris of ‘Down by the River Quilt Guild’ will be speaking on Civil War quilts.
Patty Jenkins and Alberta D. Potters will be purchasing the gifts for a girl to be chosen off the Wal-Mart Christmas Tree. The cost will be $50 -60.
The Christmas party will be a carry-in dinner on December 11 at the New Boston Community Center. There will be a passing party for members who want to take part. The price of the gift was set at $5.

Alberta D. Potters gave the devotions entitled “7-up’s in Daily Life.
The next meeting will be October 11 at the New Boston Community Center. Patty Jenkins will have devotions. Pine Cone turkeys will be made for the residents of Fountainhead Nursing Home.
