On Tuesday the Scioto County Commissioners voted to employ former state representative Todd Book as Scioto Counties Interim Economic Development Director.
“There have been a lot of questions as of late, concerning who’s going to be our new economic development director,” said Mike Crabtree, Chairman of the Scioto County Commissioners. “We’re in the process of trying to resolve any differences we may have between us and the (Southern Ohio) port authority. In the mean time, we felt we need someone to fill in as director of economic development, We felt with Todd’s connections not only at the state level but also his expertise as a legal advisor, he would be well suited to help us resolve any differences we may or may not have with the port authority.”
Crabtree said there was an urgency to put someone in the position to help move the county forward. Crabtree said Book, will be employed on a part-time basis.
Crabtree said Books start date was Tuesday and he was to sit in on meetings between members of the port authority and the commissioners.
“We have some meeting set up today this afternoon, with members of the port authority. We are going to meet with those people individually and discuss how they want to move forward. I don’t know if any of them have any interest in resigning or if they want to stay on. But, we need to see what their thoughts are as we move forward.”
Crabtree said Book will remain on an interim basis until a new director could be found.
“I can’t tell you exactly when that will be. It’s going to take two or three weeks to resolve every issue we have with the port authority and maybe not. Hopefully that will come sooner,” Crabtree said.
Book said he is excited for the opportunity to work with the commissioners in this capacity.
“I was pleased when Commissioner Crabtree asked that I work with the commissioners in an interim capacity as development director. The commissioners clearly plan on making some positive changes for the county, and I am excited to work with them during that process,” Book said.
