On Saturday, March 16, Shawnee State University and the Southern Ohio Medical Center will offer a day-long series of lectures on physical and occupational therapy-related topics at the SOMC Friends Community Center.

The seminar will last from 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and will cover four specific therapy topics. Humorist Stephanie Schafer will deliver the keynote address, “The Therapeutic Use of Humor.”

After the keynote speech, the breakout sessions will begin at 9 a.m. and last three hours, followed by lunch at noon, after which they will resume at 1p.m. for another three hours. Attendees can participate in two sessions – one in the morning and another in the afternoon – from a list of three topics: “Positioning and Postural Alignment,” “Current Concepts in the Care of the Overhead Athlete” and “Doing Dementia Care Well: Rehab Tools that Support Person-Centered Care.” Each session is pending approval for 3.0 contact hours.

Physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapists, and occupational therapist assistants should all be interested in attending.

To register, send in the registration form along with cash, check, or credit card payment. For non-SOMC employees or non-Shawnee State students who register before March 1, the cost is $99, but for those who register after March 1, the cost is $119. For SOMC employees, the cost is $49 before March 1 and $59 afterwards. For Shawnee State students, the cost is $20 before March 1 and $29 afterwards.
