Janine Grey, photography major at Shawnee State University, will begin studying at the Ludwigsburg University of Education, a sister-university to SSU, later this semester.

Grey received a 1600-euro (about $2000) scholarship known as the Baden-Wuttenberg Stipendium, which will cover her dorm and visa expenses.

“I want to go into photojournalism and work internationally,” Grey said.

Grey was inspired to study abroad after taking a 10-day art history trip to Germany earlier in her college career.

“Dr. Graziani persuaded me,” she said, “and so we pushed back my graduation date so I could study abroad.”

Despite her interest in traveling, Grey is still nervous about heading overseas, she said. She has spent only one semester studying German and can speak the language reasonably well. Grey leaves for Germany on April 1.
