The Community Action Organization of Scioto County held the First Annual Shamrock Shuffle 5K race, walk, and ride on Saturday March 16. The Event started and ended at the Scioto County Welcome Center. The racecourse included a trek along the Murals on the floodwall as well as along the Ohio River.
“We’re thrilled with the turnout for our first year” commented Luanne Valentine, Director of Workforce Connections of Scioto County and event coordinator, “We had a target of 100 participants as a measure of success but we had a turnout of over 125” concluded Valentine.
Participant Shaun Wright commented on the race, “This is my first 5K event and I had a great time. It’s obvious that the people are very committed to what they do to help kids in the area so it’s a good cause and I plan to do it again next year.”
Proceeds of the event went to The Backpack Program to provide meals to area kids in the summertime. Bill Thacker, Executive Director of Scioto County Community Action Organization, Inc. spoke to the participants of the magnitude of the event, “Today we raised enough money to provide approximately 9,000 meals to local children. It just goes to show what a community can do when people set their minds to it”.
