Dear Editor,
Once again it is time for us to vote for the senior levy that would provide transportation to medical appointments, tests at the hospital, prescription pick-ups and grocery items at the local grocery stores. These services are provided by the United Scioto Senior Activities, Inc. (USSA,Inc.) located on Market Street in Portsmouth.
Some seniors have family members who work and are not available to help with their appointments or they live out of state.
For 11 years now I have used their services. Tina, a USSA representative, has gone to the store for me and she puts my groceries away and other helpful things because I was sick and couldn't do it myself. Many times I have been able to ride with the drivers while they take another client home and this gets me out to see things and places I haven't seen for a long time and this makes me feel better.
I enjoyed eating at the Senior Center but now I am too ill to go to these events. I have met new people who were riding with me to an appointment, one turned out to be a neighbor of mine. The girls who take me to my appointments or run errands for me seem like my family and I don't know what I would do without them. All of the people at USSA need more praise for all they do for the seniors. I can't put into words how thankful I am for their faithful service and their kindness with us seniors, they make us feel as if we were like their family members.
Please remember to vote YES for the Senior Levy in November so that the senior citizens of Scioto County can have peace of mind knowing there is an organization out there that is kind and caring and has people who have the patience to take care of their clients.
Thanks,
May Davis
