The Scioto Foundation will offer the second in a unique series of  Lunch and Learn educational programs on the subject of “Public Affairs and Policy” on March 9 at the Foundation’s headquarters, 303 Chillicothe Street. The “Lunch & Learn” sessions are designed for staff and key board members of local nonprofit organizations.  Each program begins at 11:30 a.m. and concludes at 1 p.m. The cost for most sessions is $10 per person which covers the price of a boxed lunch and materials.

Building on February’s workshop in which Jennifer Williams, Executive Director of the Ohio Association of Nonprofit Organizations, gave an overview of the key elements of public policy, the second program will focus on the topic of ‘Framing Your Policy Message.” Gwen Wolford, Director of Government Relations for OSU Extension and OARDC, the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, will serve as instructor for the seminar.

Checks made payable to the Scioto Foundation and registration forms may also be sent to P.O. Box 911, Portsmouth, Ohio, or dropped off at the Foundation office.

Wolford serves as liaison to the County Commissioners Association of Ohio, and works directly with state and federal legislators and their staff on issues relevant to funding and policy that effect the two organizations. She also coordinates grass roots advocacy efforts to support funding for OSU Extension and OARDC, and works with county directors in the OSU Extension on issues related to the political arena.

Additional Lunch and Learn programs scheduled for 2010 will include a session on “Delivering Your Public Policy Message,” set for April 8, followed by programs on tax and financial questions for nonprofits, creating the perfect gift acceptance policy and donor stewardship on dates to be announced.
